After work The 8 oz bag special at P&C for PS blends make it tempting to order a little of their flakes.
Being the cold season I've been a bit pipe dry. I smoked mainly my cob pipes through the fall while I was out and mainly PS Luxury Navy Flake or a store pouch of a Captain Black blend. I'm not getting out in the cold this weekend. If it ever gets here it will be the first snowfall of the year. Windchill is dropping temps into the teens.
Way behind posting here...currently enjoying my Savinelli Series III 320 with my mixture of Chantom Manor and Old Joe Krantz (50/50).
Garage pipe, Chacom stack billiard with McClelland Blackwoods Flake. A blustery winter day in Alabama, temps dropping to 30ish with freezing rain and sleet. Yeah, I know this would be like a spring day for some of you!
The Pipe Smoker's Forum has a Pipe of The Year every year. For 2017 it's going to be a Savinelli Tre rusticated in a shape yet to be selected. My vote is for the canadian. The modifications from Savinelli will be a Turtoiseshell stem and gold band, and the pipe will be stamped PSF2017. Anyone can join the forum and order this pipe. The Tre is one of the unfiltered Savinelli lines. http://pipesmokersforum.com/community/threads/psf2017poy.58484/
I agree, I like the Canadian. But then again, if I could have only one pipe shape going forward, it would be the Canadian! I like the classic lines and long shank.
I considered getting a Tre some time ago, but don't like vulcanite stems. This will fit all my pipe preferences, unfiltered with acrylic stem and either a blast or rusticated finish. Edit - After checking, the Tre's have acrylic stems. I'm not sure what I was thinking.
The PSF POTY will be rusticated, I don't have a rusticated pipe in my stable so I will be ordering one regardless of the shape the members pick. I voted for the 606 but looks like the 802 will win. Which is ok with me every Sav I have (6 of them so far) Smoke great.
I've been enjoying a dose of Viprati every day before I get out and about. The Stanwell 139 has seen nothing but, and with another tin courtesy of a trade with Louis @dustmite that shall continue.
of my 36 pipes, only 1 is currently dedicated. One for straight VA flake. However I think I may have a coupple more one for heavy lats, another for Basic Englishs it appears. Still working my way through the pipes to have the pipe tell me what blend really sings it them. Especially getting 7 new pipes the last 3 weeks (received a Sav Series III Liverpool from SIL last night for Christmas along with a handmade tamper) I have a lot of smoking to do to figure them out.
