hello shavers,i am new to de (around 6 months) shaving but have really fallen for vintage gillettes, namely rockets and techs.i have a ej d89 ,merkur 34c,and a newly acquired 1904/6 open comb.while they work ok i like the vintage stuff better.you know ,the reinventing the wheel thing.i don t think i will try shaving with a piece of flint, but may try an se or straight down the road.anyhow,i am sure its been asked before so forgive me;what is your favourite vintage gillette?thanks again ,gary
Hey Gary, and welcome to the madness! My favorite vintage razor is a Gillette New Long Comb. They're fairly easy to find, so pick one up if you get a chance.
Tough call. Ive got a pre-war Tech, '54 Super Speed, '58 Fatboy, '64 Fatboy and an '80 Black Beauty. I like them all. Probably my favorite is the Tech because of the gold finish and because its the oldest razor but they all give great shaves.
Pre-War, Fat-Handled Tech! (Triangular Holes) It is the only DE Razor I use anymore. I actually have 2 more in storage as backups. They're effortlessly smooth, efficient, and is the perfect mild aggressiveness for my face. I have mine paired with a Maggard M3 Stainless Steel handle and it is pure shaving Nirvana.
i love looking at pics of vintage razors; i envision top hats, hot rods, all sorts of history,on a date in the old ford convertible, and so on.i think i have got my fatboy blade tray sorted so i may try it soon.thank you guys for all.gary
While I am primarily using an older tech, my favorite is either the New Deluxe or New Improved depending on my mood at the time.
That's a beauty, Kevin. I would hold on to it too. I have a pre-war tech that shows some wear. Great shaver though.
I really have many favorite Gillettes, but I will just post my NEW SC. I liked it so much I had it replated.
