Twin blades are essentially identical in thickness to the half spine.

My schedule was tighter than I thought with a trip out of town coming up early next week. Tomorrow is my day to get to the post office. Tom is going to provide me with the address for @Jim99 and the razors will be on the way tomorrow! It's been fun trying these out, and big thanks to Tom for organizing this pass-around.

It's here! It's arrived! The Ever Ready razors are here!

@PLAla did a great job packaging these bad boys and they have arrived safe and sound. Since I already have a 1914 and a 1912, I already know they ar excellent razors and are in my top 10. As I have never tried a 1924, that razor is already queued up for tomorrow's shave. I can't wait and I'm even thinking of doing an evening shave. Tomorrow is just too far off. Hmm... we'll see.

Anyway, I thinking of going with the carbon blade for the full experience and maybe even shimming it.

    What do you guys think?

Carbon and shim for the first go is my vote.

Glad they arrived safe and sound. The carbons are certainly smooth. Good luck!

Agree with you about the stock handle. I have the larger chain link handle on my 1914 and now it's my only remaining SE.

A shimmed carbon blade it is!

@twhite , thanks for making this possible!

I'll start off by saying that I'm impressed!

I used the 1924 with the carbon steel blade. It was shimmed with an old injector blade and a layer of electrical tape holding it on the carbon steel blade. I whipped up some Stirling glacial lemon chill with my Semogue boar brush and lathered up.

I could feel right away that this was nothing like the 1912 or the 1914. The razor was aggressive, but very smooth. The blade sliced through my whiskers with ease. No tugging and no pulling, just the lovely audible feedback of the razor doing its job! Two passes later and I was BBS without a nick! Wow!

Was it the carbon steel blade, the shim, or the 1924? I don't know yet, but this is a winning combination!

    I'm impressed!

Day 2 using the Ever Ready 1924 and the results were consistent with yesterday's shave. Two passes and I was BBS!

It just takes a gentle touch with this razor. I used the same shimmed carbon blade as yesterday. It was a smooth and comfortable shave throughout. Getting under the nose with this razor is much like the 1912, but you have to be a bit more creative to get it all. It becomes second nature after a few shaves.

I really like this razor and now wonder why I never bought one. It really is that good!

Day 3 with the Ever Ready 1924:
I used the carbon blade, but I removed the shim today. What a difference in the shave! I didn't realize how much a shim could change a shave. It took the 1924 from a BBS machine to being a rather mild razor. It was still a nice shave, but would compare it to driving a corvette with the top line V8 one day and then dropping in a little 4 cylinder the next. It will still get you where you want to be.

This is proving to be a versatile and solid razor. I'm hooked on it!
