The Road (2009). I've seen it before, but not since I read the book. I still give it a solid 9/10. What can I say? I like Cormac McCarthy books and movies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Today I went and saw Wonder Woman. It was decent. Probably the best DC movie so far. Though it reminded me a lot of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Well considering how just about every DC movie hasn't lived up to expectations, it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to borrow from the more successful Marvel way of doing things.
Nobody asked me, but Marvel is way more enjoyable because it's not afraid to have fun and make goofy fun of itself while also trying to be very serious within a make-believe context. The characters are also fairly well fleshed-out. More often than not it has worked. DC is dark, dour, and takes itself as seriously as German opera. When it does try to be funny it doesn't work but you can see from the Justice League trailer that they are now definitely trying to copy Marvel's approach...so many people who aren't comic book fans are going to look at Wonder Woman and think exactly what I thought and you thought: "Hey, I already saw this movie when it was called Captain America." They'll see JL and think Avengers.
By the way, I say this as an idiot who saw back-to-back showings of Civil War and Batman versus Superman, just to see if either was as bad as I had heard. One of them was.
I'm not a fan of the genre. How does it compare to Dinoshark, Malibu Shark Attack, Jersey Shore Shark Attack, Megalodon, or Jurassic Shark?
Batman '89. Haven't seen it in maybe 15 years or more. Can't believe how it drags in several spots. Can only guess it's because of faster editing of more recent movies has reprogrammed me.
Collateral Beauty. I give it a 9/10. I thought it was really good up until the end. My wife thinks I'm crazy because I didn't like the ending, but that's ok! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
'Hell or High Water" Well-made, exceptionally-acted and quite entertaining. Sort of a 'Fargo' meets 'No Country For Old Men' in West Texas. Not sure how I missed this movie when it came out, but at the request of my son, we watched it together last night.
In between my plumbing repairs this weekend I've managed to get a few movies in. Die! Die! My Darling Okay suspense film. Tallulah Bankhead was very good in her role as a crazy old woman. He Walked by Night Pretty good Film-Noir based on true events. Tab Hunter Confidential Really interesting documentary about his career and being homosexual in Hollywood during the 50s and 60s. A lot of good interviews with many stars from that time. After Porn End Pretty sad documentary. Interesting but I had hoped for a more professional doc. Maybe the second one will be better. 5 Fingers Okay espionage movie based on real events. More drama than action which made it somewhat slow. James Mason is always good though.
