On a couple of handles, and some heads on those razors I just use for display, I used an acrylic lacquer spray. Although not really acrylic, it was made for automotive use, and it is holding up really well and so far, no wear on the handles of razors I use. I wanted to protect what gold there was on the parts.
Did you have any trouble coning out the ends to fit? I picked up another couple of OLD (another one I have to use solder wick upon), and I'm starting to wonder if they even had quality control for that first thirty years.
No sir. One side was perfect. The ball end side took all of 2 minutes. Thank you my friend. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Ordering the 8mm grinding stone bits definitely helped. Now I need to put a cone shape on the front of a few, so they insert well. With the Ceracote, the multi-coloured kevlar and carbon fiber tubes might be better..
Yes the combinations could be endless. I am very happy how the razor and the brush turned out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Don't forget @Jorvaljr There's another one on its way to the new home as well. I think, with these, I'll have to ask people to send me their ends. There's too much variation to just be able to make a handle and send it to the person to assemble.
I'm really impressed by the workmanship I'm seeing in this thread. One of these days I'll have to try to do something with the Old ends that I have.
I still have a couple of 2" tubes and two or three 3" tubes. If you want to fit them yourself, you'll need a dremel tool with a small grinding bit.
Actually, I was thinking of doing something with wood. I'm not the handiest SOB on the planet, but with wood I can afford to screw up a couple of times. Thanks anyway. I'm just really impressed with how great the various projects I'm seeing in this thread turned out.
If you're going to turn something, the standard 10/32 screw thread wood insert will work better than trying to incorporate the original ends.
