I just received my Ozoku Asagi (Koppa) from chef knives to go. I will be able to cut the broken section off and have a full 5"x2-1/2" stone and have a slurry stone to boot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I'm going to get in trouble when I go down the rabbit hole of honing. Especially wth Japanese stones since I can ask my father in law to find some for me haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's where I'm going to get in trouble. I'm going to start with my dream razor. An Iwasaki Kamisori. Then I will have fallen in the rabbit hole and boarded up the exit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That should be a good stone to mess with all around Try it all with the slurries there are sooooooooo many tricks to getting the most out of your particular J-nat I would suggest From a Shave Ready edge (example off a Synthetic 8k) that you know well Try it just wet Try it with a Diamond raised slurry misty to heavy Try it with the Piece of the stone making the slurry Once you have messed with that all that then branch out into the real fun LOL
Thanks Glen. I hope to make time this weekend to start testing. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
My wife's friend brought her tile saw over for me. I just cut my Jnat to square. A slurry stone to boot. I am going to play with it this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I just finished my first honing on my Jnat. I decided to use my Columbia Cutlery Straight. As it takes a great edge and shaves great. I figured I could tell right away if the edge is good when I shave. I took the edge back to 8k on my Naniwa. I wanted to make sure it was 8k, so I gave it 40 circular strokes and 40X. Then dropped 10 strokes each time. Finished with 20X. So I wet the Jnat and started to make a slurry with my 325DMT. something is amiss. The DMT was rocking on the stone. I took it out in the garage and checked it on my surface plate. Sure enough it was a bit high down the center. I took some 150 wet/dry and lapped it flat. These stones lap extremely fast. The mud generated is ultra fine. 10 minutes and am good to go again I took the DMT and BINGO, nice and flat and a few strokes I had a nice slurry. The razor feels very nice on the stone. I was thinking the edge would be cloudy to start. Not so, taking my time and doing some slight rolling X strokes you could feel the edge smoothing right out. Going about 20 strokes and thinning the slurry. I repeated this until there was just the slightest hint of color. At this point it was cutting the water totally even across the entire edge both sides. I cleaned the blade and gave it a pass across my arm. Making sure to not let the blade touch my skin. It popped hairs like crazy. Gave it a good Stropping and it is ready for tonight's shave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
