OK....Fine AB aftershave has been a staple but to hike the price 30% has me looking to find an alternative even if it's just out of principle.....
Post what you think fits the scent profile of AB. Go!

I use American Blend as well. Of the 40 or so soaps that I now have in the inventory - I would say Tabac (see below) has many of the same scent notes. Similar to the various Fine soaps, Tabac is also a very hard soap and produces an excellent/slick lather. It comes in a very nice porcelain container. Tabac is more expensive than Fine by about $10 (if you buy the soap with the container included). But it will last a very long time due to the hardness of the soap. It is a great value.

Sorry, I haven't used Fine's soaps. I was thinking of their aftershaves. I have used Tabac and I love it for the lather. The scent is pretty powdery, though. Is that true of Fine AB?

Fine is less "powdery" but (at least to my nose) has some of the same scent notes. Scent is so subjective and sometimes it is difficult to describe what any one soap smells like. We're all a bit different when it comes to what we like. But I agree Tabac makes some of the best lather of all my soaps.

Is there anything in the TSD scent line that is similar? I know nothing about the Fine scent lines.

Fine American Blend is based on Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. I have heard Van Yulay's La Rive is a good match but haven't personally smelled it. RazoRock's American Barber is also supposed to be similar to Fine American Blend. There are probably others, and I bet someone could do pretty well by offering a lower priced, high quality Rive Gauche scent to compete with Fine since their prices are going up.

That's right, the CaD is now only $4 more than Fine. Could be 4 well-spent Washingtons.

I will also suggest Phoenix artisan accoutrements CaD.

P.S. I am not sure if that is the only soap you use, but I believe Stirling soaps to be the best value out there (price vs. quality). I would heavily recommend trying them if you haven't already.

I think RazoRock would be a great alternative for any and all of your aftershave needs.

Canoe by Dana. By me it's available at the fleamarket or I have seen it at CVS.

You can buy boatloads (is that a pun?) of Canoe at Walmart during the Christmas season, which for them should start any day now. They also typically have Stetson, English Leather, and British Sterling.
