Well, yesterday's plan for a cigar got knocked into a cocked hat when Herself announced we'd be going to a local winery for a tasting. Luckily they were serving brick oven pizza. The wine tasting went great(it all tastes like paint thinner to me) so she was happy. By the time we got home I was not in a cigar mood. Maybe tonight, if it ain't rainin'.
Well, it was/is raining. So I sat under my front porch overhang and lit up an Oliva Connecticut Reserve Toro and watched it rain. Had some Limoncello and really kicked back.
I smoked a JR Alternate (Cohiba profile) yesterday while I waited for the postman to deliver my new Scuttle and 34c. Not a bad cigar when your budget is limited. I think my favorite is still the Liga Privada, but they are out of my price range right now.
Picked up a Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Connecticut on my way home. Gonna light it off on Friday after dinner.
Dominican, Honduran and even Costa Rican tobacco have come a long way in terms of quality. The cigar boom in the 90's put allot of garbage in the market and habanos were the only leaf showing consistenty. Not unlike grapes for wine tobacco harvests change year to year. If you ever get a great habanos find the box code and try to find more. Sent from my S8+ using Tapatalk
Since I'm gonna have a humidor in a couple of weeks(or however long it takes the cigar store guy to come up with some cedar) I was cleaning up my den. My desk is a mess, so I started going thru the drawers. In the back of one I found this... At first I thought it was empty. It was not... The tube says it's a Coronas Junior. Now, I haven't been anywhere where I could buy Cubans since about 1987-88 when my girlfriend/wife and I went to Aruba. So it's at least 30 years old. No cracks that I could see and the tube has a cedar lining. I put it back in the tube and it'll be one of the first sticks I put in my DIY humidor.
Workweek over..Check Dinner over..Check Dishes done..Check Time for an adult beverage, Pallini Peachcello...Check Cigar(Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Toro)...Check Ahhhh.
The weather is looking iffy for Friday. So I decided on an after dinner cigar this evening. Since it's a school night, no booze. Snapple Peach Iced Tea instead. And a Gilberto Oliva Reserva Blanc. I've run into a small snag with my humidor. Cigar boxes are no longer made with Spanish Cedar. They just have a thin(really thin) layer on top and under the cigars. Not good. But I went online and there is a lumber dealer about 20 minutes from my house that sells Spanish Cedar. I'll be checking this out sooner rather than later.

Kickin' back at the end of the workweek. Homemade sangria(white) and a Montecristo White Series Toro Grande.
