Recently picked up what i think is an Eveready shovelhead and gave it a try. Used the same technique as with my 1912, which I like very much. Just a few strokes with the shovelhead and I thought "Oh hell no.". The feeling was aggressive, dangerous and scary. First, did I identify the razor correctly and second is there something I need to know about using this one?

    Looks
Looks like a shovelhead to me. Maybe a different blade and experimenting with the angle? It's a top tier razor. :happy088:

    Razor: Schick '500' Injector
    Blade: Chick (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

I think I forgot to post yesterday's shave, but it was the same as today's right down the line. Two nice, comfortable shaves from the 500 and Chick. Both high DFS/near-BBS with no issues.

I'm supposed to be receiving an English Gillette New today. If it arrives and I can get it cleaned up, that will probably be tomorrow's razor. It should be interesting... it's only my second English Gillette and, to be honest, the first one is not one of my favorites.

I tried a 1912, a 1914, and a Shovelhead (1924) all in a pass-around from @twhite. I found the 1924 is to be aggressive as well. It wasn't nearly as smooth as the 1912 and 1914. I also found the handle a bit short and that added to some of the challenges. I'm sure it's a great razor and with some time and patience could yield terrific shaves. But I had some of the same reactions you did upon first use!

Another cracking shave today. I'm loving the Abbate Y La Mantia. It's a great croap with a brilliant post shave feel.

You might want to try an shim the blade. Tends to smoothen things out.

Pre-shave: Hot shower then bloom water
    Brush: Omega 10049 Boar
    Razor: Vintage Ever-Ready Shovel Head
    Blade: Gem Stainless SE (2)
Post-shave: Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Men's Balm, Stetson AS

2 days worth of growth for my first time to shave with this Ever-Ready. I was a little nervous at first, but I gradually settled into a pleasant enough angle with this tool. Ultimately I managed a DFS in three passes and one small, but bloody nick on my chin due to a split second of carelessness. Still, this razor made me think twice about using it for my head shave so I moved the blade over to my OCMM to complete the task.

Have a great week my friends!

Today was surgery day so I was wanting a mild scent soap and a close shave just it case I was unable to shave tomorrow. The brush is a new brush that I got in the post the day before. This is the brush I bought a month ago, it finally arrived. I need to use it some more before giving my opinion on it though. I was able to do two passes from the soap in the brush the first time around. After applying a little more soap I did the third pass followed by some clean up on my jaw line. I finished the shave with a cold water and some Thayers AS. The results were a DFS. I have also found a new friend in this razor. It has gone from staying in it's box at the back of my den with me regretting picking it, to the front of my den with me reaching for it when I need a really close shave.

I use a 1/2 spine shim in this, and it shaves smoothly as well as close.

After using the Schick E2, had to follow up with the "Schick Buster" made by PAL. Still shaving well after a 7th outing, the Razor/Blade combo is quite smooth with a nice level of blade feel. The finished Shave certainly equalled that attained with the E2, and was more comfortable. I certainly can use it for back to back shaves, and I am using one as Travel Razor next week.

    When using a 1924, I use a 1/2 Spine Shim and also a longer handle,and get great smooth/close shaves.
