I'm two weeks into growing a round beard (goatee and moustache). My chin was feeling very uncomfortable for the first week or so, that has started to pass but my skin, under the hair, is extremely red and feels like there are dozens of hard spots or lumps. Does anyone know what they are, please and how I might get rid of them? The rest of my skin under the new growth feels and looks fine. Thanks.

    Could be ingrown hairs.

I had irritation when I grew out my goatee and the struggle was real for about a month. There are a few reasons why you have the irritation. I suggest searching growing a beard and skin irritation. It could be Folliculitis or just something simple like dry skin. Look for a good beard wash and beard oil. It helped me ALOT.

I've sported a mustache in the past, and had a year with a beard. But I never felt as comfortable as when I'm clean shaven.
My advice (sorry if i sound a bit like a wisenhimer). A good shave should solve all those issues.

There definitely is a point in beard growth where the person either has to shave or fight through. I wore a full beard (cheeks and neckline outlined) for like 7-8 years, and wasn't uncomfortable, though like you, I now prefer the full daily shave. The 5-10 days each year I skip now feel weird, though it's simply a matter of perspective and ritual.

    I'm not a doctor, just a redneck who's seen some stuff....but yeah.

I tell everyone that complains of beard itch to muscle through it. It'll pass.

It's a normal skin irritation that will pass. Moisturiser is what helped me.

Irritation is nature's way of telling you to stop or change whatever is is you're doing!

While growing a beard in the past I've used a pocket comb on my face to mitigate some of the itch.

It’s hair. Use soap and some conditioner on it and it will soften up

    jimjo1031 never bloomed myself

It happened to me during different times when I grew a beard, having to itch it and having red skin underneath, butt I have sensitive skin When I made the switch from washing my face with body wash to natural soap, it didn't feel as bad. And for the past year, no problems........

That's a good tip. Why didn't I think of that?
