They, the 195's, are good razors. They can be found for a reasonable price and less than the modern versions. There are quantifiable differences between the TTO heads, however, it might be easiest to foster a discussion based on which heads are identical.
My be easier to answer why grown men (and women) buy, trade, hoard and covet razors; a device designed to simply remove hair.
Fatboy Friday's Shave Proraso Pre Shave Williams Mug Shaving Soap Jayaruh #268 Gillette 195 Fatboy Astra SP CWR Thayer's Lemon WH Aqua Velva Musk I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #268 synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Gillette 195 Fatboy Razor on 7 using an Astra SP blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Ive shaved with the Fatboy twice after cleaning it, I really enjoy using it, I also have some improvement after trying the cold water shave that was recommended in a comment.
Gentleman, I also may have accidentally purchased one of the vintage gillette 3 piece travel razors with leather case for 10.75. my finger slipped.
I have a 59 Fatty and a 58 Executive and liked them enough that I had the Fatty replated in rhodium and the Executive replated in 24 kt gold. They are sweet shaves. I always love a chance to show them off. Herm
I rarely use my Fatboy anymore...but, for what it's worth, it is my travel razor. It stays in my dopp bag along with my Simpson's Wee Scot. Edit: ...and I do shave daily on vacation.
LAWD that is a fancy looking Slim. We need a hot water shaving badge...you know for the sane shavers around here
It's not sanity. It's comfort. I've showered and shaved with enough cold water that I don't want to do it when I don't have to
i sold my g-2 fatboy to a friend after i got my m-1 slim. ( birthyear only). i now have an m-4 slim with case (birthyear and quarter) in really nice condition. i will probably sell the m-1 to my friend if he wants it or use it in a rotation. like the slims because of the last all brass razors gillette produced during my lifetime. still like my " crats " more. although the adjustables can replicate most of the gillette razors, i am a" why not just use enjoy the original "kind of guy.just how my head works i guess...
Don't wanna speak for @wchnu, but it needs more flames No joking though, when it's decided on its going in my signature haha. I like it!
