Apollo Mikron Adjustable MkIII version c.1955. Every now and then I like to remind that Gillette did not invent the adjustables.

In a different way sure, by loosening and tightening the cap it changed angle and gap. Early single edge designs had adjustable features as well (like my 1920 Penn adjustable, and my Wilkinson).

When we think of a proper adjustable though we think of razors with an adjustment plate which doesn't vary how tightly the blade is secured, with repeatable settings, where Gibbs, Apollo, and Merkur (and a couple others) predated Gillette.

Just got this a little more than a week ago. Not a vintage adjustable by any means. However, to date, the best shaver I've ever owned

Well, I have (waiting to pick up) a birth year black beauty.
    I got a good deal, so I can't wait.
I'm usually a single edge guy, but since this my birth year razor, I will make an exception.

I finally have, in my hands my birth year razor.
Thanks to Andrew, I now have an amazing black beauty.
Pity I had to go to work today before I could use it for a shave.
Sundays are for my SE razors, but next Tuesday will be her first (to me ) use.
    I can't wait.

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Proraso Sandalwood Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #274 boar brush. I did two passes with the Gillette 195 Fatboy with an Astra SP blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Granddad's AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

When I see all those picks I can't wait till my Slim is in and cleaned. Just bought one on ebay (less then 2h ago) as I need to replace my Slim Twist. (pic from seller)

BTW I see that there are 2 sizes handles, short and long. Is there a way to replace the bottom cover so it's longer? (on tbe BB picture the bottom part looks as long as on the pick of mine, but one of the pics shows it's open, just like the short ones on the 3 BB picture)

All Slims have the same handle tip, as do all the Fatboys The M1 stamp on your Slim indicates it was made in the 1st quarter of 1967; Slims were produced from '61 thru '68.

The black handled adjustables are the Super-84 (which is roughly the same length as a Slim) and the Super-109. You'll see these also referred to as Black Beauties and the 84 and 109 indicates handle length in mm.

To the best of my knowledge the parts are not easily interchangeable.
