A drinking glass will work to hone carbon (not stainless) blades. Mostly 1950s and earlier. Or you may seek the somewhat elusive blade hone.
Well, I sucked it up and went for shave #2 after some brandy snifter stropping... about 15 sec. worth per side. The shave was definitely more tuggy than the first one, but not really uncomfortable after 3 passes. Definitely more sting upon AS application, but my face feels just as smooth, if not a touch smoother, than my first shave. Not a bad blade, really. Too bad tho that I wouldn't get more than two shaves out of it. Three would definitely be asking for trouble, I think. Stropping or not.
As Gary said re. the blade hone. You can get the same functionality using the inside of a glass water glass or porcelain (ceramic) cup.
This thread got me going and this morning I shaved with a Don Juan in my '59 SuperSpeed. One pass WTG. One pass XTG in selected areas. A dandy shave. Pure carbon bliss.
