The Spanish point is the "medieval" looking varient. There are pros and cons to sharp and rounded points. A sharp point does not provide any cushion against poor depth perception, while with a round point it is not clear where the actual cutting edge ends.
I have four straight shaves under my belt now. Two were one pass shaves and two were two pass shaves. I'm taking a couple of days off and revisiting straights. Thanks for this thread it was encouraging to me.
Also a very cringe-worthy, photo-filled thread somewhere where a member was wiping down his SR and managed to slice a hefty piece off his finger! (Gives me the willies just thinking about it!)
My first square point I got off @HolyRollah , I managed to get my left ear lobe with it. I felt the tip brush it. Looked in the mirror, and no blood. Finished my neck and chin, then started to rinse my face for the next pass. That's when I saw pink water dipping into the sink. I looked up, and had blood running down my jaw to my chin. Took awhile to get that cut to stop bleeding. Now I really appreciate a square tip. Just remember where the tip is!
