The Bostonian, or New Standard depending on which case it comes in, is a very fine razor, especially on faces with two or more day's worth of beard growth. I had no problem getting a smooth and comfortable BBS shave with two passes and some touch up.

Well, I am here to say that I tried a cold water shave this morning. I have been battling a case of contact dermatitis on my neck that I attribute, sadly, to Roberts Borotalco, a new talcum powder. Pretty awful reaction that I am treating with a steroid cream. Until it is completely gone, and it seems to be getting better, after a hot shave, the rash is beet red. (Hot water brings blood to the surface capillaries, I know because my wife is a nurse) So, I thought, what the heck (that's for you Mike...) I would give it a try. The good news is: I didn't hate it! I expected shock and awe, but instead, I got a very close, comfortable shave with ZERO added redness to my neck region. I still soaked my brush and bowl lathered using warm water. All in all, quite a pleasant experience that I may adopt.
I am not ready to join the "fellowship", but suffice it to say, my tendencies might be changing.

 

Joseph, I'm sorry to hear about the dermatitis and I hope it clears soon however I'm happy your cold water experience was a good one and maybe it well help mix things up for future fun.

Good for you. I hope that neck clears up for good. Baby steps... Just wash and rinse your face with cold water. It will be good for your skin.
