Tonight's shave was with a nice razor I've used a couple of times before. It gave a solid and smooth two pass shave. Smooth results, with zero issues. A very good razor.

Awesome shave tonight. My newly honed GD cut thru my beard like it was not there. This heavy blade and my Arky finish is a winning combo.
    Edit posted correct razor.
    Have a GREAT WEEKEND.

I used my Wade and Butcher "elite" this morning and got a great BBS shave in two passes!

I could never get this razor honed properly until last weekend. I was a little more creative with my latest honing attempt, adding some pressure and torque at times, and it paid off! I should have posted the details in the honing thread. Success is so rewarding, especially after three previous failed attempts.

    VICTORY! Congratulations.
Feels good to solve those peculiarities that can exist with certain blades, don't it?

Kevin, I recall you, Glen and others here referring to it as honing gymnastics. Well, that's just what it is and I think I've learned something about gymnastics with this razor.

    I'm not that limber.

I'm considerably better with the orange ball.

The TABAC Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #127 silvertip badger brush. I did one pass and clean up with my newly restored H. Böker 5/8 straight, I didn't even need the Gillette Fatboy and Wilkinson Sword Super Sword blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Today I used my Parker SR1. After hemming and hawing for too long, I began the first stroke with my left hand on the left cheek. The lather had dried. Rewetting I tried again. It was difficult to navigate the curves. Remembering the video, I reached over my head with my right hand and stretched the skin. It worked! First stroke when pretty well, no facial parts removed, no blood, no pain. 2nd stroke, it went pretty well. Third, had to rewet. On to the moustache area. Again left side, left hand. It went okay. Pretty scary around the curves. Next chin, the blade kept hopping. It was as though force would be required to get the blade through the hair. Scary. Try right hand. Same thing, the blade would either hop or get stuck in the hair. At this point I chickened out and finished with a safety razor. It's a start. IMG_1155.jpg

If that were the gymnastics I had to do to hone my razor, I'd grow a beard!

Tonight's shave was with a Pre-Civil War razor, 1830-1837. I had a fantastic two pass shave, that was one of the most comfortable I've ever had. BBS results, without issues.

Meager origins, but it certainly stays in the mix well. I'm happy with my Dollar shaver.
