The Arko Challenge

Day 24, 24 April 2017

 

You're short of some Arko there. You need at LEAST another dozen.

 

I buy cases and PIF it to people who've never tried. Sometimes has a dram vial or two of Veg attached. I have three sticks currently unopened.

 

Less talky more shavy.

 

That is impressive! So little is used .

What do you do when it gets down to the thickness of a quarter or less?
Do you use it in a stick container to get that last little bit?
Sorry, the frugal side comes out in me from time to time .

+1 I actually thought the same thing this morning.

 

When it's too small for shaves, it becomes face and hand soap.

 

Looks like at this rate it's going to turn into that face or hand soap in about 150 more days haha

Day 25

 

No, I think Chris is going to get bored and do a tootsie roll pop and bite it!!

 

Don't kid yourself. I make s'mores with Arko and wash it all down with a shot of Veg!

I really do like Arko. But, it's a bit too lemon for my preferred Southern cuisine. La Toja would be much more unobtrusive.

 

I used Arko with this possibly WW1 razor yesterday it was ANZAC Day here yesterday so it was fitting.

That right there is awesome sauce in a picture.

 

Yeah I picked it up at a local antique market. It cost me $16. I know very little about it. It's is branded only 7 O'clock so that would put it before the time Gillette brought them out. It may be Aussie, NZ or British army issue. It's not American as far as I know because the US army had a contract with Gillette at the time.

I even did a video of me using it if you are interested. As Gallipoli is in Turkey the whole shave is service / Turkey related. And me waffling.

I've only seen metal razors in 7 o'clock sets similar to this one made in England. On the inside of the top cover, it does say Gillette............

 

It's either Bakelite or plastic in drab green. I have seen similar looking ones in WW2 sets but not with the tin case. My son reckoned that the tin case was either WW1 or an officers one from either war. It's very interesting and nice to use. But it has a crack in the handle so I am very careful with it.
I wish I knew it's exact history and who used it.

It is also very possible it never left Victoria Australia.
