    I had gotten some carbon Feathers for my first shave with my AS. I did not like them. I was trying to save some money. However, when I got the stainless Feathers it was a totally different story. I piffed the carbon Feathers. I hope they worked out with the recipient.

    Well said. My great grandfather was a barber that came to the US off the boat from Italy. When I was younger my mother had some of his barber gear on display in the bathroom. Since I have taken up wet shaving, I wish I had it, but my mom had packed it up somewhere for now. Every time I use a vintage, I think about where it has been and the path that led them to my hands.

    On a similar note, I had lost my college ring while working at Six-Flags my senior year as a second job. They were throwing a party for employees one night and used to keep a ride open and serve hot dogs and sodas once the park closed. That night they had left the Roaring Rapids ride open - one of those where you float around through rocky paths in one of those big round boats. At the very end, the boat turned and one of the water jets drenched a friend. We all laughed and I gave another buddy a hi five. My ring flew off my finger and landed somewhere in the water. I went to get out of the boat to look for it, but even with just employees around, we had to practice safety and was told to just sit down. They told me after the season, they would drain the ride and collect all the items that fell in. That I should check with the lost and found afterwards and they might have it. That was probably around 1989 in NJ.

    I went back a couple of times, but they never had my ring. I finished up school in MI and moved out here a couple of months after graduation never to see my ring. During the great recession around 2009, I was suddenly laid off and was out of work for 10 months being in the auto industry. Times were very tough for my family. During this period, I received an anonymous phone call from PA. It was a lady that asked my name and the school I graduated from. She said she had found a ring with my name in it and asked if I had lost it. I described it and she told me that she did not want anything, but would put it in the mail if I gave her my address. She did not provide me with her name or any information. I figured there would be something on the package. The ring came in the mail in a plain unmarked box with just my address, and after roughly 20 years, it was back in my hands and looking better then new! I could never find a way to thank the lady for her kind deed after her phone call, but I always wondered about the journey my ring went on over those 20 years and the odds of it ever getting back to me. I was also amazed because here in Michigan, so many people were unemployed and in upside-down mortgages. That year my kids got Christmas presents from a collection the teachers took at the public schools. Every other commercial on TV was about sell gold for cash, and I had many friends that either moved away and left everything or just defaulted on their loans. That ring not only signifies an achievement in my life, but also reminds me of the kindness of others, and never to give up where ever you are in life. I can appreciate how certain things, no matter how little can have big meanings.

    Good morning all, here's this morning's SOTD-

    English Gillette Super Speed.
    1948 Gillette Blue Blade.
    Simpsons Duke 2 pure badger.
    RazoRock XXX shave soap.
    Nivea post shave balm.
    Pinaud Clubman S. R. Splash.
    360 Red cologne.

    Hi folks, I just wanted to say a few words about this razor. It is an English Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip. I don't know which year it is, because it has no date code.
    I did not know what to expect from this razor, I have had it at least a year, and never tried it. I can honestly say I am impressed with this razors performance. I did a one pass CCS, and I am thrilled with the results. The razor itself looks like it's American counter parts, except in these areas;
    Notches on center bar-
    [IMG]
    And the Made in England inscription on the underside of the blade tray-
    [IMG]
    And here's a photo of the entire razor
