I posted a few weeks ago about my grandfather getting into turning some brush handles. Well he has done it again! The first pic is his first brush and the second is of his latest creation. He may be an addict now!

Wow! I really like that second one. That is very unique.

Like @Jayaruh mentioned , that second one is nice. Don't ask why, but "I Dream Of Jeannie" popped into my head.

Very Nice! He's good, and you are fortunate. While you have him around take lessons. My grandfathers shared such knowledge and it's Priceless!
Should he decide to continue find out if he'd be interested in doing a similar handle with a bit of Louisiana Cypress. I've had several made from a cutting, still have a couple chunks left. I'd send enough for you to get a couple, too.;)

Love them both, but the grain on the second one is really fascinating.

I just got a lesson myself. Turned my first handle out of a chunk of oak...

Got to play a little mor on the lathe and this is my first masterpiece. It will get a 20mm black synthetic Maggard knot when it's all done

I have got to get me one of those. Only seen one lathe in local pawn shops. Couldn't justify their asking price.

Check out Craigslist or get one from Harbor Freight and see how you like it. You can turn a lot of projects on a small lathe.

Very nice. I especially like the grain pattern on the second one. He's a talented guy!

Is that different types of wood - laminated, tipped, and turned? Or painted... Either way a stunning effect :happy088:

Seen stuff like that before is rifle stock making. Diamondwood? Might be a brand name.

It's laminated and a pain in the rear to turn. It wants to chunk off ever once in a while. I'll get better pics when I go back out to my grandpas to pick it up

    That's not Basic Lathe 101.
Texture & grain running different direction.:shocked029:

Bully! You aren't "Proceeding along the path". That's some avant-garde stuff right there.
