    If I had answered this question a year ago I would have said soaps are better, now I'm really liking creams.
    I face lather so I put a dab of cream on the tip of my brush and go at it.
    Tubes are easier to store, travel with.
    A great member here turned me on to Russian creams, I haven't looked back.

    Soap = manual transmission
    Cream = automatic transmission

    I suppose I can appreciate that analogy, but I've done both now, and never did a manual transmission car

    Both get you to your destination, but the manual takes more work, and is often more fun! No manuals in NASCAR...

    I found the soaps bring a much better protection than creams in general - soaps last longer as well

    I favor soaps but I've got some creams that I bought two years ago that I really need to start using. I know the Proraso, and TOBS, have some longevity but I'm not so sure about the Dove For Men Brush Cream that I got at Grocery Outlet. I bought two 6.7 ounce tubs for $5.98, and a bottle of the ASB for $2. The cream and balm actually work pretty well. Dove put's out some good mens care products.

    Any Russian creams would you say are comparable to TOBS or Nivea?
