Soap scum, I don't like it!

Some shave soaps leave things relatively clean, and some leave white funk all over everything, including clogging up my boar brushes!!! Boar bristles become waterproof and need to be thoroughly scrubbed out with dish soap to make them work again.

Anyone have a short list of non-clogging soaps to share? Please?

Why not grow a beard? No need to worry about the white funk then...

Hard water - that's what's causing the scum. Do you have issues with calcium or magnesium in your tap water? Consider a water softening system, or pick up a gallon of distilled to see the difference low mineral water can make.

Please tone down your prejudice and refer to it by its politically correct name, soap residue.
And get yourself some Scrubbing Bubbles.

I am sorry... I was trying to come up with something clever about the scum. I failed. Scrubbing bubbles is your friend.

I don't bend to the perpetually offended, I tell the truth and label things accurately, scum is scum.

I'd rather side-step the funk-scum in the first place than clean up after.

    Back on topic...
All soaps have oils that will attract residual soap and minerals, which, if your water is anything like mine, most likely does. Distilled water is a PITA, IMO. So total avoidance will probably not happen. Do the 5:1 water/vinegar rinse when you notice build up. That's what I do.

I have a sign hanging in my area at work: Just because someone is offended doesnt automatically mean that they're correct.

It's probably overkill, but every six months or so, I "clean" all my brushes with this method. Give them a good clean water rinse afterwards. They'll still have a vinegar odor and not feel particularly soft when they first dry out, but after your first lather, all will be back to normal.

A major complaint I heard from those who scoff at Rise Super Foam(or those who recall using vintage Rise)is that it clogs up razors. It does mine, but a simple rinse off worx for me. I know..,..Rise ain't shave soap. Just wanted to jump in.

in vancouver we have some of the softest water around and some soaps and creams leave a hazy film on the razors etc.i have no idea why ,i just clean em.

TobyC, what is your water hardness? Your utility will typically state this in water quality reports in mg/l as CaCO3. Which soaps left a scummy mess on your brush? Which ones work well for you? That information might help others suggest soaps for you that will be brush-friendly.
