    SATURDAY MORNING'S SHAVE

Bath Soap - Lucky Girl Boutique's Pure Body Delights "Black Magic" (Scent by Shannon's Soaps)
    Razor - Merkur 45 Bakelite
Blade - BiC Chrome-Platinum *Fresh Blade
Shave Brush - YAQi R1605-S Synthetic
Razor/Brush Stand Mug Mud's Evolution Pottery
    Pre-shave Oil - Lather & Wood "unscented"
Shave Soap - Citrus Dusk (Vegan soap formulation by Country Club for Men & Scent by Shannon's Soaps)
Aftershave - Citrus Dusk (Aftershave formulation by Country Club for Men & Scent by Shannon's Soaps)
Post-shave Balm - Retseliney Luxury Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum
Deodorant - Lucky Girl Boutique's Pure Body Delights "Black Magic" (Scent by Shannon's Soaps)
    Fragrance - Creed Selection Verte

Unfortunately, the lovely red felt label on the flacon was ruined in shipping due to a leak of approximately 20% of the juice. I decided to post the picture of the flacon anyway since it's the original intent, despite the marred label.

Special thanks to Shannon's Soaps for graciously providing her "Black Magic" scent oil and Kevin of Country Club for Men (Kevin does very careful, meticulous work when filtering/prepping his aftershaves) for his shave soap and aftershave making and Sheryl of Lucky Girl Boutique on Etsy for making the bath soap and deodorant. I also want to thank Heather of Mud's Evolution Pottery for spending time to create the special mug for my project that holds the shaving soap, the brush and the razor in one container. It's so old-school looking and PERFECT for an old-school fragrance like Selection Verte that is made using old-world methods. Both Kevin and Sheryl made fantastic labels that fit the colored theme of this set. I couldn't have made this happen without these people. I will treasure this shave kit each time I use it.

I've never shaved with a Bakelite razor before, so tomorrow morning will be the first time trying out this neato looking razor. I hope it shaves well. The only alternate would've been the PAA Bakelite Slant that has a similar color scheme. I just had to have the Merkur 45 though because it really matches the mug well.

A nice 2 pass shave with a first time use of a Parker blade. Not bad at all as it was plenty sharp while feeling smooth and forgiving. The soap & aftershaves both combined to cool and refresh on a mildly hot day giving a fresh citrusy scent and vibe. Good start to the weekend. Have a great evening and shaves Gents.... :happy036:

    MAYhem 2018!!!!!

    May 25 - It's a Marvy kind of day!

    Razor - Rapira el Cheapo
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Marvy
    Brush - Marvy
    Post - Alum, Styptic

Well, upon lathering the Marvy again I was about to claim that witchcraft was involved. The initial load of the brush and lather on the face produced a decent lather. Peaky, not as thick or cushy as a Stirling or something along that lines, but better than I could hope for. The slickness was, well, average, which seems to be the best Marvy can do. I chose the Rapira setup again to give the soap a challenge. Definitely not the smoothest razor even with a Rapira blade in it.

First WTG pass seemed to go well. Nice effectiveness. A bit on the rough side but nothing outrageous. The lather even lasted until the end of the pass! Wow! There's that potential for witchcraft being involved again. Second lather wasn't quite as nice and the XTG pass was even less nice. Finished that pass and some touch ups and still had a bit of lather left for the whole thing. The slickness in the face of the el cheapo razor showed its weakness, however, with 5 visible nicks. I cleaned up, grabbed the alum and found my entire face/neck very warm with the 5 nicks firing off and another 4 spots hitting me hard too. No blood on those but obviously close. Yeah, Marvy, you may have looked better but you didn't provide the necessary slickness for that under achieving razor.

The scent has partially returned as I've lathered the puck a couple of times now. I described it as "moldy" last night. I can't do much better than that other than to say "chemical smell". Not harsh, but it's a scent I remember well and still dislike a whole lot. We may retire the Marvy soap and brush back to storage for another MAYhem. It was fun to play with again though.

Hope your weekend is off to a fantastic start!

    Brush: WDC-8, Maseto 24mm 2BF
    Soap: P&B Spitfire
    Razor: Schick Type L1
    Blade: Chick

    IMG_20180526_082143.jpg
As my last shave was only about seventeen hours ago I thought the L type would be up to the job.
On this occasion I wasn't wrong and the Bank Holiday weekend got off to a lovely start.
The warm scents of Spitfire and Pashana were just right for this damp and bleak looking Saturday morning.
On that cheery note, I wish you all a great weekend.

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Proraso Sandalwood Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #289 brush. I did two passes with the Wade & Butcher 5/8 Razor and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Peach WH and then Barbasol AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
