Saw it on ebay and so unique that I had to have it. Figured for $9 if I didn't like the quality of the boar I would swap it out for a bulb shaped badger which I still might do as I think the shape would compliment a fully bloomed badger more so than a boar.

Great find and a good point about the full bloom badger knot replacement. Sometimes the badgers bloom so wide they are too floppy. the shoulder of this brush might corral the bloom a little. Good thinking! For the $9. bucks you got it for it's a steal. I really like the style as it is so different than anything out there. :signs021:

Shaved with a Treet Black (carbon) this week. I soak my razor in 90% alcohol after every shave and have yet to find rust on my blades.

OK, my first "SOTD" as a newbie. Be gentile.

    Brush: SheaMoisture Badger
    Razor: Merkur HD
Blade: unknown local grocery store brand (got confused and thought I was grabbing a Personna to try...grrr)
    Cream: AOS unscented
    Pre-shave: AOS Lavender
    Post-shave: Kiehl's balm
And liberal use of a CVS Styptic Pencil

Shave was, for all intents and purposes, a bloodletting. This is my first full week wetshaving with a DE, and up until today I've used this same setup with a Derby blade. I've had a couple of minor nicks, but nothing like what I had today. Didn't feel a pull or a tug, but man it did some damage. Was using no pressure that I could detect. Had to stop partway through my second pass, as the shave had really ceased to be enjoyable.

I am wondering, though, if I'm not ultimately the cause due to using too much "product" on my face now. With the addition of the Kiehl's, I'm now putting a couple of creams on after my shave (also have to wear sunscreen every day due to skin cancer). I wonder if I'm not causing some bumps due to clogged pores that set me up for today's torture.

First: Welcome to the Den! Glad to have you aboard!

Second: The "unknown local grocery store brand" could be the issue. Some guys on here do well with no-name blades; I figure they all have skin and beards as tough as Superman. I recommend ordering the blade sampler from TSD and giving some better blades a try.

Third: Sorry about the skin cancer. I don't know what SPF you have to wear, but Neutrogena Triple Protect Face Lotion has 20-30 SPF. It's my "go to" aftershave balm; I've been using it for years, and I haven't found anything yet that soothes my skin as well as it does. Plus, it doesn't have a scent, so it won't conflict with your cologne.

    Hang in there!

    Semogue 1305 Boar
    Utopia Double Edge
    Astra Superior Platinum Blade
    CWR
    Dickinson's WH
    Pinaud Clubman AS

Today's shave features my new Utopia double edge razor. It weighs in at 4 ounces and sports a 4 inch handle. The TOBS Lavender shaving cream face lathered easily with my Semogue 1305 boar brush. Two passes with the Utopia double edge razor and the Astra Superior Platinum blade left me with a close comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Dickinson's WH and Pinaud Clubman after shave.

    Thanks!

The Grocery Store brand I bought a while ago, I'd thrown it in my shave drawer a couple months ago (I have bought DE razor blades for years as part of my fly fishing/tying hobby). Earlier this week I'd found some Personnas at a Sally Beauty (oddly enough, they appear to be made here in Knoxville). I took both blade boxes out of the packaging, and neither was marked with a maker. Early this morning I just had forgotten which was which, and grabbed the Kroger generics by mistake. The boxes are now labeled.

I have to wear an SPF 50 or better. Luckily the 9 I've had cut out have all been Basal cell. I just have to keep up with it as I have an aunt who died of Melanoma at age 26. I'll figure it out - I use a Neutrogena sunscreen, which does moisturize. So perhaps I should stick with an aftershave splash more than a balm, then hit it with the sunscreen. But I'm trying to change no more than one thing at a time.
