Prep: Hot shower. Nivea menthol face wash.
    Razor: Merkur Progress
    Blade: Astra SP
    Soap: Cella
    Brush: HJM Best Badger
    Post: Alum. Dickinson WH
    Aftershave: Osage Rub-AKAT2000
I took the Cella out of that small red tub. Replacing the tub with an Amber PET heavywall 8oz jar with lid. So much better!
    Go out and get it!

Tuesday, April 22 - Beginning of my birthday week
My birthday is next Tuesday. So, until then, I'll be using only my '66 Gillettes - a Slim, a Super Speed Flare Tip, and a Ball End Tech. I'll also be using Old Spice after shave, since it was quite popular in '66. (I was going to use Aramis, which was introduced in '66, but I'm not going to pay $33 for something I might use for only six days.) I plan on ending the week by attempting my first straight razor shave on my birthday.

Prep: Hot shower, Axe Chilled Face Wash, homemade PSO, lather, hot towel
    Brush: Simply Beautiful Badger
    Cream: The Real Shaving Co.
Razor: '66 Gillette Ball End Tech
    Blade: Polsilver (1)
Post: Cold water, Thayers, styptic, cold water, Cetaphil lotion
    2 passes - W, A, touch ups

DFS on my cheeks, a lot of irritation on my neck.

    Prep: Hot wash.
    Pre-shave: 3P
Brush: Edwin Jagger Best Badger Black
    Shave Soap: Col. Conk Almond
Razor: 1969 Gillette Super Speed Flaretip Black
    Blade: Wilkinson Sword
After Shave: Lucky Tiger Bay Rum

Not my best shave. I am not really sure about the Col. Conk soap yet. My guess is that I, so far, have combined it with blades that don't really do it for me. There is something about the glide that isn't really there. I have to try it with the Feather blades before I make up my mind. But if I find it to be substandard I will always have my new favourite; Figaro. Same smell, but a little stronger and lots of glide.

Razor: Vintage Matador on BRW Bull Mastiff
    Blade: Big Ben
    Brush: Oscar11 Goldshalager
Soap & Cream: Tabac Stick & Palmolive Cream
    Post: Thayer's & M-Gel Lotion
    After Shave: Aqua Velva

I accidentally topped my brush with Palmolive cream without thinking. I had already put Tabac all over my face. Instead of washing the dab of cream down the drain, I decided to see how they mix. It was so great, not only did I end up with incredible lather, the scents mix incredibly well . I ended up with the sweet, fresh scent of the Palmolive with undertones of the dark Tabac scent. My new number one lather has been found! :happy036:

OK...Aqua Velva, Let me start off by saying, I have hated this stuff with a fiery my whole life. I kept reading that Floid Blue is really close to Aqua Velva in scent. I figured I would try it, $3 is not that much to loose, why not? I do still hate the way it smells in the bottle. But...it does change when applied and on the start of the dry down you do get a bit of the Floidness. That goes away soon and you are left with not a bad scent, but Floid Blue at all not in anyway close to my nose. I will say that my face feels great and I could see myself using it every once in awhile.

Excellent 3 pass. Love coming off of my creams and back to the VDH Deluxe. Makes me appreciate this simple, inexpensive beginner soap more. Lather is great. Maybe in a few more months I'll change my mind, but I doubt it. There are a ton of great soaps and creams out there, and I can't wait to try them all. But for $2 it's REALLY HARD not to love this soap.
    Have a great shave!

When I posted this earlier today I was in a hurry. I didn't get a wound less shave this morning it was more like a "blood letting". I really nicked myself several times and I had to use not only my RazoRock Alum Stick, but several tissues and almost to the extent of using bandages.:angry019: Also this morning when I shaved I got a good lather but not as good as yesterday.(not enough water) :shocked029: :shocked003: :rolleyes005:

Also I was listening to Radio Classics on Sirius/XM Radio..........Gunsmoke today.

Excellent! Razor of choice? Honed by? Will you attempt a complete 3-pass (not recommended), or simply scrape the cheeks bare and call it a day (recommended)?

    And the countdown begins.......

    Hot shower
    Prep: DIY PSO
    Brush: Duke 3
    Cream: Speick
Razor: Black handled, gold Tech, Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Black (3)
    Post: styptic pencil
    Aftershave: Speick

Something must be going around today, as I had a difficult shave as well. Today was the first time in four months of DE shaving that I had to use my styptic pencil. A bad nick under an ear lobe and smaller ones on my neck and upper lip made for a shave that stung. I'll hope for better tomorrow.

Prep: warm wash with Stirling bath soap
    Lather: Godrej Cool Menthol
    Brush: Stirling badger
    Razor: Gillette Tech
    Blade: Vidyut Super-Max Stainless
Post: cold water rinse and Proraso Green aftershave.

I tried bowl lathering the Godrej this morning and didn't have the best lather, so tonight I just rubbed some of the cream right on my scalp and lathered up the brush right on my skull. A little water here, a little water there and I had a super slick and shiny head of lather. I had to check a couple of times to make sure I put the blade in because it was just that smooth! 2 simple passes and I can find no stubble on my scalp! Can't wait to do it again.
