Gents and Ladies, I'm looking for a nice pair of sunglasses to replace a very heavy pair of Serengeti Drivers that I've used for more than 25 years. In addition to UV protection, the main considerations for me are comfort (I drive a lot) and build quality. I'm leaning toward a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators. What do you all recommend? Thanks in advance.
If you are interested in modern frames, but want to avoid Oakley...check out Native Eyewear, Colorado-made, Samurai recommended.
Look at Randolph Engineering. I own two pair and absolutely love them. aviator-sunglasses.net is where I get them. Excellent vendor.
Costa del Mar by far the best glasses I've worn for comfort, eyestrain, and vision. while metal detecting on/ in the bright sun at the beach,I can clearly see things in the water others around me cannot. I am in the Florida Sun 35/+ hrs a week, I couldn't think of it without my costas.
Maui Jim makes light and comfortable glasses. The lenses are polarized which helps with the glare when driving.
Ray-Ban Balorama, if they still make them. Haven't had a pair in decades but the wraparound keeps out everything.
I love my Oakley flak jackets. So much so that I put Transition lenses in them and wear them as my normal glasses.
I use the same glasses but with progressive lenses as sunglasses only. Since I use them with a my motorcycle helmet, I went with non polarized.
In the immortal words of ZZ Top... "The first thing you do when you get up out of bed Is hit that streets a-runnin' and try to beat the masses And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses." I loose them too easily to spend any real money.
Easy, American Optics Aviators. They are much better quality than Ray-Ban, they were work by Air Force pilots and Astronauts, and they're the same quality as Randalf Engineering but much cheaper! These cost me about $60 shipped. Details: Gold rimmed, Grey Polarized lenses, Bayonet,
RayBan aviators are my favorites. I prefer the springy wrap around ear piece model. No slippage in hot sweaty weather ;-)
