I'll probably give a few away, keep some to use (and see if the value increases), and maybe trade some if someone can't find any. If its not smelly enough I'll sprinkle a puck with a little bit of the Veg and make Vegawilliams shave soap.
Discontinued? Really? I hadn't heard that. Guess I'll be making a run back to the drug store on Monday where they carry this in stock... About a 60mi round trip for me but they sell it for just about $1.20/ea compared to online. It's not "the best" but I like the Williams soap.
Amazon to the rescue.... buy a 24 pack for $38. $1.58/puck. Free shipping. You're welcome. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=williams shaving soap
Lol..I was just looking there and the eBay. I don't need quite that many but have priced them in the past to go for usually 2-3x depending on shipping cost.
No buy July? I didn't get the email. Oh well. Should I return the Gem Demaskeene I just picked up today? Best as I can tell, it's a 1912-19 model. Don't know for sure. It was $12 and looks like it's in decent shape. I'll post pictures later.
Here's my new GEM Demaskeene. Does anyone have any details on it? I have been trying to determine the year is was made, or at least an estimate. From what I can tell, it was somewhere between 1912 and 1919... I think.
You're right in that it's pre-1919 as it's still referred to as GEM Cutlery Co. so automatically we know it's 1912-1919. Since yours is a closed comb and not an OC model we can narrow it further down to 1915-1919. I'm not sure it's possible to date it any further than that. See below for an example of how the razor looked like 1912-15, my OC version:
They also had something called a Tele Razor and a Shake Sharp razor. The Tele Razor was from the UK and heats up. The Shake Sharp razor has a built in strop and it sharpens the blade when you shake it. Very cool stuff.
I've never heard of the Tele razor, but the shake sharp has a built in hone, not a strop. You grabbed the wrong razor. The Shakey's are fairly rare and give a great SE shave with DE blades. I can't find out anything on the tele. What kind of blades does it take?
