*DONE* Shaverman's Embarassment of Riches PIF - Quick & Dirty Edition

On the wrong continent, so I'm not in ... but that looks like a fun PIF indeed!

I'm in.

I would say that I'm thankful for Thanksgiving. I know it's not true for everyone but it gives a couple of extra days to get together with family and friends to do nothing but have fun. No gifts to worry about, no potential tradition or religious conflicts, nothing other than food and hanging out!

 

I am in.

This year, I am thankful that between the two of us, my wife and I survived THREE job losses this year and now both have jobs with organizations we absolutely love. I lost a job (as some of you may recall) back in February, and then a couple of months later I found a job with a small startup in the same field. Well, in August I got a call that the startup was bringing in a couple of new investors and as a result the sales team was being gutted... Which meant I only had that new job for about 3.5 months. It was devastating and a total shock to me since I enjoyed the startup, had built a great pipeline of business for them, and had done a heck of a lot in only 3 months to transform that organization. Well, a week later, very nearly the same thing happened to my wife, who works in a completely different field. Her job loss came as even more of a surprise. We felt like we were being kicked while we were down, and we set our sights on mitigating the negative impact of the job losses and finding new opportunities.

After nearly 3 subsequent months of searching for both of us, and numerous interviews and offers, we both found positions almost simultaneously with new companies... Companies we already both like better than our previous firms, with better salaries and incentive plans, better benefits, better work/life balance, and better long-term opportunities. So I am very thankful that we are now "back on track."

And even more than I am thankful for all of that, I am doubly thankful that my wife and I supported each other through it all... We helped each other deal with the stress, heartache, anxiety and even despair throughout the months of not knowing when or if we'd see a paycheck again, we prevailed together, and eventually we celebrated each others' successes... and now we feel like we can breathe again. So though I'm definitely thankful we both now have great jobs, I guess what I am most thankful for is the unconditional love and support of my wife, and thankful we got through all this together.
