Very nice! Wow, don't think I knew (unless I forgot that I knew) that there was a G stamp like that. I have a 1912 with no stamp and a 1918 that is stamped Gillette there. You sure that is a 1917? Looks like the serial starts with an F (or is that just a bad pic).
I'm not an expert on dates but I used Achim's as a reference. http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Old Type/1917 Standard Set.jpg I'm assuming the Gstamp means the little "G" in the last pic.
Probably. This site below has some errors, but this what I usually use to date vintage Gillettes. According to the site, F series were in 1918. I have a 1918 F series, or I wouldn't have noticed... http://www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/gil_ser2.htm
Wow - you got one heckuva score there! Beautiful razor! I'm going to have to go look at all my single rings for that "g" stamp....
Me too. Shouldn't take long! :happy102 Really nice find there. Gives me hope that one day I too will discover such a lovely item! (For cheap too hopefully!) You should consider this though - out in California it will probably just rust like crazy. You should send it to me and I will be able to keep better care of it!! Really!!!! True!! You can just PM me for my address.
You know I don't have any idea of it's value.. I just came across it and thought I'd give it a whirl. Sure does look good. With that being said.. anyone have thoughts on what these might fetch?
Great score Scott! I don't think I have seen the diamond logo on that area before. It is only the second old type I have seen with the G stamp. Here is mine from 1920 that sold in France... [/QUOTE]
