    Race Theme Week

Since Sunday started the NASCAR season for 2015, I thought a Race theme would be appropriate this week. But I'm going to leave it a little more open ended. I'm not saying the race has to include cars. Pick whatever type of race you want.

    Rules:

    1. On Wednesday (or earlier) the previous Friday SOTD Photo Theme 'winner' posts the theme for the upcoming Friday.

    2. Anyone can enter and can interpret the theme in any way they want (creativity is encouraged).
Photos are to be posted by end 0f Friday (can be posted wed-fri).

    3. Sometime on the weekend the person who posted the theme picks the photo that he/she thinks best represents the theme - note: it is not the "best" photo in terms of resolution, sharpness, etc - but the photo that does the best job capturing how the person interpreted the theme. Or they can just pick whichever photo they like best. Think Apples-to-Apples.

    4. On the coming Wednesday ..... see Rule #1.

And that's it - it's basically after the first week 'run' by the 'winner' (for lack of better word) and the participants after that.

Volvo Ocean Race (and other sailing regatta objects)
    2015-02-27 racing.jpg

Since during these ocean races weight is of importance, I opted for a light razor and shaving oil in stead of a metal razor, soap/cream and a brush.
    • Shaving oil: 15 grams
    • Razor: Gillette, 7 grams
    • Blade: 3 grams for 5 blades = 25 days
Total: 28 grams for a 'leg'. This is the fourth leg of this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race: Sanya (China) to Auckland (New Zealand). They are 19 days in, finish probably tomorrow.

I used this set-up to perform a Cold Water Shave today. Fresh water that is, not salt water... ;) Had an excellent shave!

    2/27/2015 Race inspired shave

Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette 1940s Super Speed, Hamburg Concave Quick Cutter straight razor
    Blade: Racer (1)
    Brush: Col Conk pure badger
    Soap: Barbon
After: Home made ASB, Barbon after shave
    Cologne: Cuir Cannage

"I am speed", that is what Lightning McQueen says in the movie. The Col Conk brush whipped the Barbon cream into a good lather. The Quick Cutter and the SS paired with the racer blade did a fine job on the stubble. The Barbon AS brought a little chill and the Cuir Cannage will have me smelling great all day. All in all a 2 pass Darn Fine Shave + this morning.

    Have a blesses day!

This will actually be tomorrow's shave because I'm staying home with a sinus infection today.

My post for the Race theme.
Now, the story behind the item in my post. My daughter, who at that time was in 5th grade and is now in her last semester of college, asked me if I could help her build a car for her girl pioneer pine car derby. I replied sure, I would be happy to. She then said, she wanted it to look like an athletic sock! :signs002: This was a bit of a challenge but the results are what you see in the pic, minus the axles and wheels that we donated for a friends car the following year. While she didn't win, she was happy with how the car turned out, the fun we had and second place.
A great memory we still talk about.

Nice entries this week. Creativity award goes to @Darkbulb. But since he started this game and got to pick the theme last week...

The win this week goes to @grump

Mostly for sentimental reasons as I have a 4-year old daughter of my own.

    Congratulations :bounce017:

Although late to the party, I wanted to share my Racing themed story. It took me awhile to find a photo of Warren Johnson I had autographed in person from him many years ago in Vegas. I also met and chatted with John Force and Daryll Gwynn at a 7-11 that same weekend.
