A DIY Shave Den!!

Discussion in 'Special Projects' started by Captain Pre-Capsize, Dec 13, 2011.

  1. Here is how I made my shave den that fits right on the top of the toilet tank. First, a box the right dimensions (ruler added for scale)

Next cut the box down for what will be a pleasing profile

Then add a brick for heft and mass to ensure it doesn’t go anywhere once it is in place. Importantly, this provides a great shelf for den items!

Lift it up and insert (conveniently) into a pillow case - shhhh, don’t tell SWMBO!! Then trial fit the items.

For those who may wonder here is a tour from left to right: Two vintage talcum tins Watkins and Beamans full of Clubman talc. Behind them is Casswell and Massey talc then Dominica bay rum and St. Lucia bay rum (STRICTLY research[IMG]) one of my favorite vintage glass bottles nearly empty of Clubman and in front a full vintage Colgate shave talc tin. Musco Real, Bigelow and Trumper are my shave creams in front. The razors are left to right, a Segal, my birthday Fat Boy and Merkur Slant in the mortar bowl. Just behind the bowl is a bit left of the Speick shave cream.

Up on top of the brick are left to right a razor / brush holder with a boar brush hanging upside down and my Dovo Shavette inserted vertically behind it. Next is my Butterscotch Badger Finest and then a Lucite Finest restore (thanks Rudy). In the corner is my Aristocrat taking a bath (carefully padded with paper towel inside) and in front a Henckels straight edge.

Nice job! I particularly like the talc tins, especially the Colgate.

Simple and functional... I store some of my items on the toilet tank already, seeing as it's next to my tiny sink area, this looks like a good way to make room for everything.

As long as you don't use the water below that display, you're okay. I may have to tell my wife she needs to find another place to set the air freshener and that I need one of her blue pillow cases.

As one who really enjoys antique shopping, that set up really has a vintage feel to it. Looks great!

This is really cool. It's given me a bit of an idea of what to do with my own den.
