Over my time of collecting razors, I had accumulated a box of basically razor junk. There were handles with no corresponding heads and some handles with heads that were basically brassed or the combs had been broken off. It looked like everything in here was a mess. Some of these razors went to TForc's razor project earlier this year. That had eliminated most of the “good” junk razors at the time. During the past couple of months I have received some additional razors, and while some were good, the junk box started filling up again. While I was looking for something else today, I began to rummage through the old junk box. I spotted a shiny golden object in the box of junk. It was tech handle, but there was a very battered head to go with it. I also noticed that the top thread barrel had long since lost its gold plating and the nickel was completely exposed. That was why it was in the junk box in the first place. I began to just overlook this as another useless handle when I saw in the box a small pouch. The pouch contained a travel razor “stub” with a nice looking nickel tech head. I have very little use for the stub handled travel razors. If it is a telescoping handle then that is another matter. They are quite useful. The stub handles in my opinion are a waste of time and space. When I saw the head and then looked at the gold plated handle with the nickel thread barrel, I realized that two pieces of junk could make one decent razor. I took the handle and the head and away I went to get the Flitz polish. After a short time of polishing, the Gillette Two Tone was born. It looks as if it should have come like that in the first place. Somehow I started to hear a little tune rolling around in my head…867-5309, 867-5309… What items do you have (razors, brushes, straights, etc.) that came out of a pile of junk that you thought would never be useable but somehow was provided a new lease on life. If you have pictures, and a story, please share them. Oh, and here are some pictures of the Gillette Two Tone.
I really like the looks of that! I can see the Ebay listing now; Super Rare Two Tone Tech! Only One Known To Exist! BIN $299.99!
