I just got this whole lot of razors. I don't know how to identify them. Especially the single edge. They are GEM, Everready, and Valet as the brand suggested. But I don't know further than that. I tried using a DE blade but it doesn't fit. Further reading the forums I noticed that they use special SE blade. But all I can find on the net is industrial scrapping SE blade. I am so confused right now. So, can you guys direct me to SE blade that I can try with those SE. And for the Gillette, can you help me with their names? Thanks a bunch. -Arief
Bottom left looks like a Schick. Right next to the black handled one, looks like two early Gillette Super Speeds. check for a letter and number, the date codes.
Top, Left to Right GEM, GEM 1912, two Micromatics, Valet, Gillette old type, Gillette ball end tech. Bottom Left to Right Schick Krona, two 40's style super speeds, WWII era bakelite Handled Tech, unknown razor, possibly a Star, and another ball end Tech.
Wow. You are like a walking encyclopedia of razors. Thanks a lot. Now I know I have a 1912, I will try it out as I see in the SE thread that this is a favorite. But where to buy the blade? (which one to be exact)
Check out "Try-A-Blade" online for sampler packs of SE blades, I like the PTFE coated blades. Some drug stores carry them also.
Since the OP is in the Philippines (if I remember correctly) Connaught Shaving might be a cheaper shipping option. http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html Those blades will work in your GEM and Micromatic razors. I prefer the Micromatic over the 1912's myself.
No problem. I have checked Connaught Shaving. Some how they don't list Indonesia in their shipping list. I should contact them later for a shipping possibility. I might have to send it to my brother in Singapore.
@PLANofMAN How do you clean them? I saw you have done a good clean up in other threads. My razors look like yours. So dirty. I want to make them shine again.
If you didn't see my reply in the other thread, spray them with a foaming bathroom cleaner. Here in the U.S. it is Scrubbing Bubbles, in the U.K. it is Cif. Look for one that is designed to remove soap scum, marketed as a shower cleaner. Let the foam dissolve, a matter of a minute or two. Rinse the razors. Use a mild liquid hand soap or liquid dishwashing soap and a soft nylon, or better yet natural boar bristle toothbrush to give each razor a gentle scrub. Rinse it again and dry it with a soft towel or cloth. Astonish bathroom cleaner in a trigger bottle might work. It's the only one I see available for Indonesia. Avoid products with bleach! Bleach reacts with exposed brass and will cause tarnishing and pitting. Avoid products with Ammonia! Ammonia will crack brass.
Thanks for the correction, I hadn't noticed the origin of the thread. I'm glad somebody is on top of things.
I did read your reply there. Thank you for answering again. Even with more information. I will check Asthonish as I did see it on the shelves of Ace Hardware.
As far as blades for the SE, you can get SS Gems from Amazon. I got some for my SE razors & they work fine.
