Now, with one extra, I might actually shave with a Fatboy more often. I love the hunt for a good one, and the process of cleaning it up. It was a bit squeaky, but a few drops of mineral oil fixed that right up. Just a bit of brassing at the handle base and on one of the guards. Overall in really good shape. Adjustment works great and last 1/4 turn is good.
I wish I could find some decent razors around here. Mine are all Ebay wins. I want to scour some flea markets. The antique store razors are always in horrible shape and they want too much for them.
Agreed, I have the same problem here. I've only bought one local, I paid 40 for my first superspeed at a local antique mall, and when I got home it shaved crappy come to find out it had bent bars.
Here Here Knox, they all know what we are looking for and its hard to score now. I told that story here once a long time ago, when I went into a well known thrift store and I asked the young hippie guy if they had old razors, he said yeah they get them sometimes but have to throw them away, then he tells me he got one the other day that had a cool silver box and threw the razor away and kept the the box for his pot, my blood ran cold that was a Gillette abc pocket edition. When I happen to be out and look at razors, I carry a magnifying glass with me. I have put back most of the razors, I have looked at. Easier to check for bent bars, bent teeth, uneven closures, gaps between the head and the bars, etc. I try not to buy a razor, that I can not look at personally. I don't collect, just like looking for different razor. On occasion, I may buy one, try it then usually sell it. Greg W.
