Here's a question for those who have found the sweet spot on an adjustable: what is your set-it-and-leave-it number? I have four adjustables: Fat Boy, Slim, Black Beauty, and CKO Futur. I haven't found the numbers yet, but have been recently making some progress on the Slim (thanks to Jayaruh and his recent obsession with Russian blades!). I've stepped the Slim up to #6. It was a two pass (+ touchups) BBS on the second shave with an Astra SP. I'll keep it on #6 for the rest of this blade, but wondered where the TSD gang sets their adjustables. ALSO... Do you find that your number is different for different razors (from the same manufacturer, that is)? and not to forget the number switchers... If you use a different number for each pass, what numbers do you use?
Being as I do not own and adjustable razor, I can't really comment on this subject. I had one and I do not remember what I set it on. But I will follow this thread and maybe I will be able to get an Adjustable Razor in the near future(if "She who must be Obeyed" allows me to get another Razor)
Very different for each adjustable for me. Slim 7. Super adjustable 8. Merkur progress 4. I set it and forget it.
After trying different settings I cranked my fatboy, super adjustable, and slims to eleven and left 'em there.
Received a "poor mans slim", the Ideal from Russia, about 14 days ago. Having experimented a bit with different settings, I finally tried the most aggressive, "9", today (with a shark) It WAS quite aggressive - but to my surprise I found it very comfortable. Going to give it a go with an Astra SP tomorrow - this may be my last post :-D
My Gillettes - Fatboy, Slim, Super & Black Beauty all at 6. My Futur at 2.87654321, or, for those without a feeler gauge, just a tad under 3 My PAL injector - H
There is an excellent review here: http://theshaveden.com/forums/index.php?threads/The-Rise-of-the-Russian-Bear.24462/ I am quite happy with it. The price was 17 EUR, shipping included. The finish is not really up to "european" standards, but it is functioning well and the blade alignment is good - and it has a nice weight. Also, I like the long handle. It is not going to drive me away from my EJ 89, but it is a nice supplement... Plus it comes with a transport case ... And when I shave with it I get an urge to invade Ukraine.
I use a Futur and it depends on the blade I use. Mostly I use 6 for WTG and XTG and then dial down to 3.5 for ATG.
From same supplier Spinal Tap uses for their amps If you haven't seen "This is Spinal Tap" yet you need to, as a matter of fact it's been a while, so I may have watch it tomorrow
