My lovely wife took me out this morning to one of the local antique/junk markets and brought me this 1940's Gillette Fat Handle Tech slot head with Bakelite case, made in England for $28 AU. It had a rusty blade in it but after a clean up it's very usable. The nickel plating is ok for the age but I might get it replated After a quick clean to remove the scum and rust. I might chuck a BIC blade in it and alternate day with my Maggard's WCS Frankenstein razor, so I don't mess up the day count on the Perma Sharp blade. I am looking forward to trying it. Very nice find on a classic design! It's mild design makes sharper blades, like a Bic, really shine. (nice deal at US$21.20!)
Great score! I have one just like it, and I think you will be pretty happy with the shaves you get from it. Good Show Sir!!
Nice wife. Both are keepers. Good score. Two trips to the fleamarket for me so far this season. No joy in the razor department as of yet
Yeah both are definitely keepers. They had what looked like old new stock Perma Sharps for $8 for 5 in cardboard but I wasn't sure about those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is it with a BIC blade loaded. I am pleased how this razor has come up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sounds like your wife knows and loves you well. I love old Techs. They work really well for me. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
The plating looks fine, hit it up with a little metal polish to get rid of that discoloration and it will really be gleaming then!
My wife has found some great things for me in the Antique markets as well. I love it when she helps. We have great wives Nice razor!
Great find. They were built as tanks and yours is in a very good shape. I would clean the case and blade holders as well and use them.
It has been interesting learning the history of my Gillette English Flat Bottom Tech. I wonder who owned this before me... I guess I will never know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
