Never touch the stuff. Community Between Roast. It's not quite Dark Roast, but it's darker than most Yankees drink.
Community Coffee. Been roasting coffee in Houston for decades. Certain times of the week you could smell it at the University of Houston campus.
Between roast is for girls...Dark roast with chicory rules. Community roast coffee across the river. I wake up often to that smell. Woo.
On your recommendation I picked up a bag last time I refilled my coffee stash. Been years since I'd had it. Definitely a thicker brew, but I use a creamer in my coffee so what do I know?
More caffeine in a lighter roast. It's like cooking with alcohol, it burns off. Roasting actually burns off the caffeine.
Yup. More flavor in the dark roast though...specially with added chicory. Caffeine is no big deal. I can drink coffee and sleep like a baby... Often do.
Flavor is subjective. Would you believe there are people who don't like the taste of coffee?!?! Since roasting my own, I've come to prefer the flavor of a medium roast over the darker roasts. Darker, to me, tastes burnt. I drink my coffee black, but each to his own. It's your coffee. Enjoy it your way.
I know people that love the smell of grinding coffee and brewing it...but will not touch a drop. There are some strange people. Black is the way to drink it.
I'm a home roaster too. You are correct about caffeine. Lighter roast=more caffeine. With light to medium roasts, the taste profile emphasizes the bean, while darker roasts emphasize the roast.
That's me. Although I won't waste it by brewing coffee just for the smell. I just don't like the taste of boiled coffee. I'll even eat roasted coffee beans - just not boiled. Then it tastes horrible. I won't add anything to it, because then, what's the point?
There ya go! I've taken 3-5 roasted beans in the palm of my hand with a Chocolate Kiss, pop 'em into my mouth... mmmmm... good!
