Mine has nothing marked on the inside and only "Gillette" on the bottom left, a "w" on the mid left and a "2" mid right. The rest is blank. With no pat no. And no "made in" stamp does this mean I have a fake? I'm still very new to Gillette razors.
Do you have a pic? If it's marked W2 and is a TTO it should be a black tip; if it's a 3 piece I think it should be a black handle. This is the bottom for a 3 piece, but the stampings are the same on my W2 1951 TTO black tip. This is a W4, just imagine a 2 instead of a 4.
I think that's one of these: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/gillette-1951-anniversary-tto-de-from-england.26052/
Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post up all the information. I was able to use your info to identify my recently aquired DE as a 1959 Super Speed. Thanks again!
I think I found and won an auction on eBay today for a 1958 TV Special according to the guide here. I wish I could post a link to the auction itself so you guys could confirm. I tried, but I just joined today and the site prevented me from posting a link as I am a new user.
Sorry to tell you, but that's not a 1958 TV Special. The TV Special doesn't have the horizontal grooves around the handle.
No worries, Tom. I was purely basing my guess on the cross-hatch appearance of the knurling on the handle. I see what you're talking about now, though. Don't know how I missed that. I suppose this could be an earlier model, perhaps 1956 or so? Any ideas as to identification would be helpful and appreciated.. I'll look for date codes when I receive it in the mail.
I'm glad that I found this thread I'm a DE noob, and I just bought a Gillette Super Speed X4 from Etsy. It was by looking thru this thread that I found that my purchase is a TV model
Glad you found it too. Now I have an excuse to post my favorite SS. It is my 47 SS. It is my birth year razor.
