What is the average price to get a straight razor honed? It's for my Robeson Shuredge that I recently acquired. It's sharp enough to cut paper cleanly, but I want it shave ready.
Oh, stop cutting paper with straights. It's not good for it. When you can take a single hair, and cut that, with a straight, then that's a good start.
that is really hard on a razors edge. The edges are delicate and that will ruin an edge quickly. I test by tree toping my arm hair and then my leg hair when I run out of arm hair. Honing will run between $20-30. Stick with a well known honer, Glen and Kevin have already been recommended and I would add Whipped Dog.
I had @gssixgun hone one of mine. His price is reasonable, turn around was super fast and he does excellent work. Though I've never had @HolyRollah work on my razors, his work has also been praised here many times.
Yup. Glen is my go-to guy for str8 sharpening. As you said, super fast turn around and excellent work. Not to say anything negative about Kevin's work, I've just never sent anything to him. I don't recall anything negative at all from those who have had Kevin do work for them. If his sharpening skills are only half as good as his razor restore work, then he has mad sharpening skills!
Somewhat off topic, but wouldn't it be fun to do a tour of either Glenn's or Kevin's workshop? Maybe they would even give out free samples at the end of the tour to all of the visitors!
I have bought a couple of Kevin's (@HolyRollah ) and had him also work on a DBL DUCK from a different member and his work and turnaround is awesome.
I want the deer season tour. And I am assuming a good rye whiskey as opposed to a nice marbled dark rye bread
I'm surprised with this group that the thread got this far without anyone saying, "Don't take your razor to the ballpark for honing..."
