Anyone have any information on Barbershop Brand razors and blades.
I acquired a boxed set with a 3 peice razor and Barbershop brand blades in a nice wooden box.
However I can not find any information on the web about the Brand.
The only markings other than the brand name on the handle is the # 9 on the underside of the head. HPIM9524.jpg

Hmmmm....there is some info somewhere, but I can't recall where I found it. Google should definitely turn up something. I know that's how I found what little info there was out there.

    Oh, and Bill (aka Dridecker) should be chiming in here soon. He sent me a nice box similar to yours but with brush and soap inside, after I found and bought this;

    And here I am!

As I recall, the Babershop Brand was made for/or by the Franklin Toiletry Company, and the company stopped producing stuff probably in the late seventies or early 80's.

I have seen brushes (badger, boar, and mix), mugs, tallow soaps (I split a buy of 17 pucks with Bong), and cartridge razors. The soap boxes I have are pre-UPC code, so I kinda use that to approximate the age of their products.

Yours is the first time I have seen a D/E in a Barbershop Brand case. Is the lining fitted for the razor?

Yes, the box is made for the razor.
The 3 piece razor has "Barbershop" engraved at the base of the handle.
The razor has a nice heft to it.
Unfortunately the manufacturer used a combination of nickel for the head and shaft and aluminum for the tube shaft cover.
There has been some oxidation of the aluminum, or a reaction between the two metals.
Info on the www is sparse, I know its not that old, 1980's sounds about right.
Her are a couple more pics.

Any info you come across would be appreciated.
    Thanks Bill and JoAnna

That looks like Merkur probably OEM'd that razor. Very nice find.

    I think your right Bill.
The head on this looks suspiciously like a Merkur 34C or a 38C.
    It is definitely well made.
    If it is a Merkur...WOW, I paid $4.50 for it .
Going to take it for a spin tonight.

I have some of their soaps.. Pretty decent soaps but they tend to have lost almost all scent..
Cool with the razor - never seen one before.. Good Catch!!

    Cheers!

  8. I have one of their brushes (Boar) and it works well and is very well made.
