I know many here see the glue or wax on Astra, Gillette and other blades as no big deal, with suggestions that the glue/wax washes away with hot water, does not jam or gum up the razor, or that one can scrape off the glue/wax from a newly opened blade with the previous blade. Others will simply suggest that the glue/wax is not an issue at all and is not a good reason to disregard some great blades. If you're in the above camp, this post is not for you, move along please. If you have another, as not yet listed reason for accepting glue/wax on your blades, move along please. Now that the preamble is done with, please recommend your favourite glue/wax free blades. I'd like to find a blade as good and longlasting as an Astra without the glue/wax. Many thanks all.
I really enjoy most of the Lord brands and no glue/wax issue with them. My Favorite in the brand are Big Ben blues, Shark Super Chrome, and Lord Platinum Class. That is also all the Lord made blades I have tried so I haven't found a Lord blade unacceptable for me. Here is a link to all the Lord Brands!
I don't have an issue with wax, but I can understand why someone might. I am particularly fond of Personna Lab blades and Lord Platinum blades. Both blades have the same attributes: no wax, excellent price, and consistent performance.
Some say the Vikings Sword from Israel is comparable. I have a 20-pack on the way, so can't confirm yet.
My personal favorite non wax blade are Gillette Super Blues. Since they stopped making them in the sixties, you might have a bit of a problem sourcing them.
I'm an Astra SP user and I like them "VERY" much, except for those &**%$ wax spots !! They will cause the blade on occasion to stick to the razor and since I use shims, the spots cause the blade and shim to stick together..Recently I've started using Viking's Sword blades(little over a month now)and I can confirm that "at least for me",the Viking's Sword blades shave every bit as smooth, close and last as long as the Astra, they are comparatively priced and "NO" wax spots.. From what I understand they(the Viking's) are made in the same plant as the Personna Cyrstal blades...I started with 20,ordered a 100 and just ordered another 100 more for $13.99 per...I got mine off ebay from a vendor in Israel called "Liorfe"....Hope this helps you out.....
Neither Bolzano Superinox nor Bic Chrome Platinum have the wax/glue dots that cause some of use problems, in my experience.
Schick and Personna injector blades, as well as the various single edge blades made by Personna/American Safety Razor Corporation are 100% wax free!
