I just won an auction for a Gillette Slim from my birth year. Just curious - do others get razors from their birth year, or am I the only geeky one?
I don't go out of my way for 'em, but some folks here do. Nope, you're not geeky, just proof you're one of us.
Wow! That's a work of art! I don't think the condition of the one I won is quite that nice, but we'll have to see how it cleans up.
Other than a lot of elbow grease, what did you use to get it to shine like that? Do you mind sharing your restoration process?
Soak in boiling water for a few minutes. Scrubbing Bubbles, nylon brush (toothbrush is fine), rinse, Flitz, microfibre cloth buff. Repeat with Scrubbing Bubbles if needed.
Thanks! I've heard of Flitz, but have never tried it. I'll give your process a try once I receive the razor.
I like to get birth date razors just for the fun of it. I was born in Jan 1958 so I'm looking for D1 superspeeds, fatboys and techs. I have a Flare Tip and Red Tip now, and will eventually get the others. I'm not a fanatic though, and just do it for fun.
I'm looking for one from my birth year (1971). Anybody have an R1 they want to sell or trade? Good post, LifesShort.
From what I have seen online. Finding an 87/88 super adjustable is pretty hard.. Being it's the last year's they were made..
I would love to get a Gillette from 1947, specifically a SuperSpeed. That was the first year of the SuperSpeed and they weren't date stamped. However, you can tell them because they do not have a notch at the end of the center bar. That was introduced with the 1948 SS. I did acquire a 1947 Rolls razor though, but it is pretty dull. I don't know if I will be able to get it shave ready.
