I own two Gillette Superspeeds, date codes Z-3, Y-1. each one shaves differently. Are blade exposure different with each Super Speeds?

Generally no within the same SS series. However your Y-1 was made in 1953 and very close to the end of the 40's style Super Speeds. The Z-2 and Z-3 marked a crossover period for Gillette where you can find the first flair-tip Super Speeds and the 1954 blue cased TV Special 40's type with the same Z-3 code. Given Gillette's inconsistencies during change over periods it's hard to tell what changes were being made.

There is also the possibility that the safety bars could have been bent at some point due to dropping or adjustments made by a previous owner. But like was said earlier, these razors were made over a long period of time and stamping machines and other equipment to make them probably changed over time resulting in slightly different razors.
