I start early at work and find I can't focus and enjoy my shaves in the morning. I have switched to evening shaving Mon-Fri. Post shower shaves are reserved to weekends now.

Try holding a hot wet cloth to your face for 4-5 minutes.

I do the shower and hot towel, because I take quick showers. But I only hold the wet hot towel, on my face, for about 30 seconds.

Some blades I replace every shave. The cost is so small that it is worth it for a good shave.

I think my greying whiskers are made of this stuff.

I'm on shave 12 with a Personna Med Prep blade. This is the first one I've used.
I usually go 20-30 three pass shaves on a blade, unless I'm bored, and just toss it. I've had over 40 on a blade, before it needed to be tossed, but that required extreme dedication to prep, razor angle, pressure, and type of stroke. I believe I palm stropped when I went that high, also.

I can normally get more than five shaves per blade but recently I have been changing blades at five so I don't have to change blades mid shave or deal with a tugging razor which occurs between shave six to ten.
