I've seen a review somewhere. Supposed to be OK. I have some on the way, I'll let you know and post a review here at TSD.
I have had 3 shaves with a Blue Bird in my Fatboy. It performs quite well. It feels on my face between a Red Personna and an Astra Superior Platinum. It's not my favorite blade but I bought 100 of them and I am happy with my purchase.
I posted a similar thread, and the feedback on B&B is that they are Derby's made for a Dubai importer.
The plastic package looks like the Derby but so far I've found them to be sharp and provide a very close shave. Give me a few more days and I'll post a review and link it here. So far I like them. Personally I've never been fond of the Derby. As always - YMMV
I also got some Blue Birds and I find them to be different to the Derby's. I'm in the same position as I need to try a few more blades for a full report.
I tried my first Blue Bird yesterday. The shave went well, but further testing is necessary. I have not tried Derby, so I can't compare the coatings. I thought it funny that the case, when you open the little door, has a slot for used blades, but no opening on the outside of the case. The hinge on the door half tore off the second time I opened it.
Sorry, but this caused me laughing. Why do you buy 100 blades when they are not your favorite and are happy with the purchase?
Actually I bought 100 blades never having tried them. They were inexpensive and the reviews were good. Being a new product that was generating some interest in the DE community I figured I could resell them or PIF some of them if I didn't like them. As it is, they are fine, work well for me and I will be using all of my supply.
I found Blue Birds to be both sharp and smooth. My subjective experience is that they are sharper than Iridiums but slightly less sharp than Feathers. I am very pleased with them. I have read that Blue Birds are made in Turkey for a company in the UAE.
Agree. Great blades for me. Almost as smooth and forgiving as my Astras but sharper; almost as sharp as my Feathers, but smoother and more forgiving/predictable. Competes for me with Astras as my go-to blade.
I saw that thread and a guy that actually handles distribution for Derbys responded and said they were the same as Derby blades so I have no reason not to believe it. I was PIF'ed a 5 pack of the blades but have not given them a shot yet. Back when I tried Derby blades well over a year ago I did not like them at all, so maybe that's why I've held off. I would love to see Squire or someone examine examine Derbys and Bluebirds under a microscope and determine whether they are in fact the same exact blade with a different logo/brand name.
I sent Squire a 5-pack of Blue Birds for review. He has them in his queue and a review will turn up eventually.
The list of coatings, plastic dispensers, recycle symbol on reverse of the insert and plastic wrapping all suggest these are certainly made by Derby. ________ JR80
I have tried both Blue Birds and Derbys. They are NOT the same blades. Blue Birds are reasonably sharp, smooth, don't 'pull' and leave relatively few nicks. I'd put them a step above Red Personnas and a step below Gillette Bleues and Super Irridiums. Derbys (for me at least), produce more results, require more pressure (and thus create more bloodshed), and leave more irritation. I'd definitely recommend trying them out. But not 100 at a time. Blue Birds are okay. They are a middle brand imo. I've found stuff that works much much better for my sensitive skin and coarse beard, though. Derby's are different, but in the same working range. I like Gillette 7o'clock stainless (Green Russians) and the Astra superior stainless. Have yet to try Feathers.
