I pray this finds all doing well! Spring is well underway, alergies in full bloom. Hope this year isn't too bad for those who suffer. And another Theme Week is here. This week it's all about the bowl. Yep, Bowl Lathering Week. Give it a shot, find out what yer missin' when you face lather. What I'd really like to see this week, though, are pics of what your whipping up your lather in - scuttle? mug? bowl? Show us whatcha got! Looking for something new and different to lather up with? ohpaos started this thread ---> *check it out*
Monday & Tuesday I used a plant pot I nicked from SWMBO. The inside is glazed and has no ridges, so it's quite smooth. But never a problem to lather up in it.
How about Bamboo? Worked Ok...But like the smaller one that fits in the palm of my hand better! This synthetic knot holds so much lather its ridiculous! You can see how its almost "bloomed" in the first pic because its so loaded with lather. The 2nd pic is an after pic and probably still enough to do the whole thing over again after a 3 pass + touch up BBS! Pre: Early morning run, shower + TSD ISZ PSB Brush: Vintage Fuller + Synthetic "Best" Lather: D.R. Harris Lavendar Soap + AOS Lavendar Razor: Merkur 38C Blade: Astra SP Post: Nivea ASB + Gillette Cool Wave (Crystallized) About 2 ounces of menthol! Have a great day all!
Yeah...That was supposed to be 2 Grams! 2 ounces woulda probably iced out my wife who was still sleeping in bed!
Wednesday: Today's bowl was an old and worn cake mold. The pewter lining wore off so the copper came through. Not suitable anymore for baking cakes. But because of the ridges I concluded it to be very suitable for lathering up!
Thursday Todays shave was with a bowl I seldom use - my Korium lather bowl, handmade from Germany. I rarely use it, because I'm so scared to drop and break it But I'm beginning to use it more and more. I once read that in your life, be sure to use your precious things and use'em hard - some day they might be gone and you may have not got full enjoyment of them. Great bowl, seems like a perfect size with the edge formed a bit like a "lip" to hold the lather inside the bowl. Fits nice in my palm with good weight.
Friday! The flower pot again. I always let the bowl float in the sink - so the lather feels luxury warm!
I accidentally deleted my flower pot picture upthread when trying to add a lather picture earlier this week . (But you didn't miss much w/ my phone pics)... Anyway, I've been lathering in non-traditional "bowls" lately (just for kicks). This week I used the flower pot, a gravy warmer & a coconut shell. This was the fourth time lathering with this particular coconut shell, which was "treated" with sunflower oil to add some flexibility & protection. It's starting to crack, so it will be thoroughly cleaned and re-purposed into a bird feeder (unless someone needs a custom coconut bra?). Happy Weekend!
As I mentioned in other threads, I'm new to wet shaving so I had to use what I had on hand to get started. As in SWMBO's favorite ice cream bowl. And thank you ohpaos for the heads up on VDH soap.
i told her if she wants her ice cream bowl back, then get me something else... she didn't take to well to that one
I'm not one for taking pics, but here is my collection. L-R, Back to Front: Georgetown Potter Scuttle G5, vintage crock, Cabin Pottery chowder mug Chowder mug, Chowder mug, Sara's Lather Bowl Vintage bowl, Lather Bowl from Classic Shaving
You can take that as a precedent to guide to guide your future actions. If she asks you to help with the dishes, accidentally break one of her favorites. If she asks you to do laundry, throw some bright red garment in with the whites. Your training program is on track.
Very nice 3-pass shave. Got a heavy load on the Omega 49 and the Proraso Red made a fantastic lather in the suribachi. The 7 a.m. blade was a new blade for me and it did a fine job. The suribachi makes a good lathering bowl, but it's a 5" bowl and just a little too big to fit comfortably in the palm of my hand. A 4" bowl would probably be the perfect size.
