J-hooking and blade buffing are ways of getting a smoother shave on those stubborn areas of your beard than a standard 3 pass shave can give. I have a patch on each side of my adams apple that grows in several directions. j-hooking helps give me a bbs in those areas. Basically you pull the razor downward in a short stroke and give it a little curl at the end. Sort of like drawing a j on your face with the razor. buffing is moving the razor back and forth without lifting it in very short quarter inch strokes.
