Several years ago I cut the ugly plastic knob off my Progress and replaced it with Bolivian Rosewood. It looked great but was a real pain to make. Since then I've acquire a machine lathe to go with my wood turning lathe. Due to the collapse of the housing industry I've also gotten a lot of time to experiment. Since then I've made solid brass Progress Knobs and Nickel plated Knobs, but as a wood worker I've always wanted to come up with a practical way to make a wooden tip knob. Well I have succeeded and the results are even better then I imagined. I made 6 spindle which I just got back from the plating shop. Now I can use any wood but the Burls are my favorite. This is Amboyna Burl and the picture doesn't do it justice.
