Got some vintage Minora blades on ebay. I thought they were going to be carbons but they feel more like stainless although I see nothing on the packaging or blade to suggest they are stainless. On the blade it says "Patented 1965, 1967, 1969" and "Made in Canada". Was Gillette producing blades in Canada in the 1960s? Just trying to gain a little knowledge. Any help is appreciated.
Minora was an old brand that according to Waits Compendium started back in England in 1929 and the patent filed in 1931 under the Colton (Gillette) distributorship channels. Gillette has long used other branding names such as Colton, Rubie, etc. in non U.S. countries, mainly to serve to fight generic brands and keep low price competitors off the market. By the late 1960s this strategy came to an end.
I have some old Topco blades that I wish I could find a truckload of. They work fantastically for me. To me, they look like Personnas.
This shows how little I know about blades. I have been living here in Canada for a long time, and I never saw this brand.
More than likely they are because ASR was the largest maker for the private label (store brand) markets.
