A new Theme Week is upon us. This one is Cheap Week and will run from Monday the 19th to Sunday the 25th. Most of us here will admit that the reason we got into all of this was to combat the high cost of cartridges. We wanted to save money - buy ONE razor and stick with a 15 cent blade. Yeah, sure. Any way, I thought it would be fun to use the products that actually have been relatively inexpensive. Proudly show off your flea market finds and your ebay steals and then make us all jealous by telling us how little you paid for it. How 'bout that soap or cream that's only a buck and a half? Hey, gifts are free ya know. Can't get any cheaper than that.
Cream: La Toja Classic - free sample from Phil Brush: Mohawk 3-338 - antique mall, $8 Razor: Grafco OC - flea market, $2 Blade: Gillette Super Thin - free sample from Phil Post: Osage Rub - on line, $5.85 + shipping Cologne: Curve - gift from my wife
Gem Micromatic ClogPruf Gem Stainless PTFE Simpson Chubby 2 Best Klar Kabinett Alum Superior 70 Aside from the brush, everything else was economical. The razor was just a few bucks at a junk shop. The blade runs me about $.04 a shave. Just from a performance stand point, I think the Klar Kabinett is a bargain. It comes in a 500g package for $20 (about $3.50 a puck). The Alum was a gift from Jeff and Superior 70 hovers just above the $2 mark locally. Overall, I liked the shave. I think I prefer the OCMM, the clog pruf is a nice shaver.
I haven't been posting my SOTD's in a while. But with it being cheap week how could I resist. Razor- 1908 Gillette Single ring - Picked up at a flea market for $2. It was black with tarnish and crud, but it cleaned up very nice. Soap- Arko- Got a deal on Amazon 12 sticks for 9.99 shipped a couple of years ago. 84 cents a stick Brush- Turkish Horsehair #6- Almost 1 year old and still improving with use. $2.49 Alum- Bestshave's green block- $2.50 AS- ViJon's Spice- A great Old Spice clone (smells most like the vintage OS) $1.69 Blade- Rapira- .06 Total cost for the whole kit $9.58. Not much cost for a shave kit that can deliver a WORLD CLASS BBS shave. Have a good day, Gentlemen.

Monday Morning Irsco Horsehide strop $13 ebay JDL Sterling Straight 5/8 $20 ebay Old Spice Soap $12 ebay Rubberset Brush- $12 handle ebay, $10 knot TGN. Master Spice Aftershave $5 Nice shave today. Glenn has a good video on honing a razor using one stone, the Norton 4/8 , I followed the video and successfully honed up this razor , finished it with a few passes on Chromium Oxide. One thing bothers me about straights and thats I have never really learned how to hone.It sticks in my craw that honing has beat me but its a new year and something I must learn to do. I can tell what regular straight users say is true, its a really nice feeling to be able to hone and then shave with the razor you sharpened to perfect pitch.
Hanzo thats one sweet looking razor you have there, And that is my must have vintage shave brush , and lovin the old spice shave mug ,

Almost embarassing...lol
Yea I always wanted a Aluminum handle brush but the Rubbersets on ebay all have bad knots. Memberstalking about TGN made me look at the site and then I saw Omega boar knots for $10 so I saw a solution. Too your metal polishing of the Cade container made me think I could take the 800 grit sandpaper I had and clean up the handle. The handle unscrews , top from the bottom so that made reknotting a snap.I just cut out the old plug with my dremel, cut the plug's bottom part to fit the handle and epoxied in. The rubbersets look plentiful on ebay but our brother shavers are bidding them up a bit, the last one I say I was set to buy it and last minute it shot up to $20 , I'll get another though cheaper.
i used micromesh wet/dry paper I got on ebay about £10 for about 9 sheets different grades 4"x6" size which is great for what I was using it for (it was my fault the soap dish was in that condition really) wont happen again, As for the brush I missed out on a few, dont see many this side most are USA and postage can be more if vendor is willing to post to uk
Steve: What about your inexpensive cup of Black coffee? If you roasted it, there must have been some savings!!!
Cheap Week - Monday Williams Shave Soap - $1.29 Tweezerman Badger Brush - Free 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable - $10.00 Voskhod Blade - Free Superior 7o Bay Rum - $4.99 Shave - Priceless
Glenn also has a video on 1 stone honing. Set a good bevel on the 1k then finish on an 8k. That one video has improved my honing so much (plus lots of practice) . Glenn's video's are great. It's a good feeling to get a good shave from a razor that you've sharpened on your own hones.
Nice! Depends on how you look at it. Yes, it's much cheaper per pound (under $6) than gourmet coffee, but still a bit more than most of the big name coffees.

Tuesday of cheap week. Today I went with new budget gear. Razor; Lord L6 , a great razor that only costs 11 bucks Blade; Rapira , IMHO this is the best 6 cent blade I've ever used Brush; Omega the mighty midget. A big lather from a little brush 11 bucks Soap; MWF... I know some would not consider the fat a budget soap, but at 12 dollars for a refill puck . It lasts so long, it's a great value. AS; Masters Bay rum 5.99 Even though this shave kit comes in at $40.05 . It's still a budget kit of quality products. And it easily delivers a priceless BBS shave. Have a great day gentlemen.
