I know this has probably been talked about time and time again her but I can't find it in the search. I bought a Schick injector today and it's nice but has a lot of green. Got it for $5 so I thought I would clean it up and see how I like it. Can't beat $5 even if it's just a dust collector. Anyway, what's your best technique for cleaning an antique store find before you use it? Thanks in advance!

Green can be risky to clean up as you may end up with pits or worse where green used to be. Dawn soak, toothbrush/toothpaste are safe, Scrubbing bubbles next but anything can happen once you start scrubbing away green stuff.

    Great find for $5!
The only thing I can add to what was already said is toothpaste maybe. It's mildly abrasive so it might help get rid of the green.

    Gold plated.
DO NOT BOIL GOLD PLATED RAZORS. IT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO REMOVE THE PLATING.
I use Scrubbing Bubbles (SB) on all my razors.
1 take apart or open up
2 place in small tub or bowl
3 cover with SB and allow bubbles to disappear*
4 cover again with SB and allow bubbles to disappear *
5 scrub with soft toothbrush, use a toothpick in the nooks and crannies
6 rinse, dry, light oil, done

*Scrubbing Bubbles has been known to take the color off the numbers of the Gillette adjustable razors and the Star Lady Gillettes. Do not allow to soak for any longer than it takes for the bubbles to disappear. So perform step 4 as soon as you see step 3 is complete.

As I said, I have used SB on all my razors, to include the adjustables and Star razors above. Following the instructions above I have never had any color loss.

Add: SB will do three things for you...
    1) eat soap scum
    B) disinfect
III) leave your razor nice and shiny

If there is a blade in that bad boy, remove it before you start cleaning.

But don't force open the spring, it's not meant to open. Remove only by inserting another blade.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Got her all cleaned up. Looks almost as good as new, mild plating loss above the blade slot location but other that that it's good to go. Now to find some injector blades and see what it can do!

Start by soaking it in near boiling water with liquid dish soap for 20 minutes or so. You might do this more than once. Use a toothbrush to scrub it a bit after each soaking. Next step break out the toothpaste and do the same thing. That should do it. :happy088:

The head is gold plated and anything of any strength doesn't work well on it. :rolleyes005:
